From v2 to today: Midjourney's rapid evolution
I still remember the day I created my first Midjourney. It was June 2022. I was working with the v2 version. Those first steps were not easy. The so-called "prompting" was a real challenge for many, including me. It was not only the understanding of the system that had to be learned, but also the fine-tuning through numerous parameters and weightings. Anyone who worked with Midjourney at that time will remember how much time and energy it took to achieve the desired results.
In this first example, the differences between Midjourney v1, v2, v3 and v4 can be seen very well in a close-up. The image is from Eluna.ai
But how things can change in a year!
Looking back on the evolution of Midjourney now, in July 2023, I am simply impressed. It almost feels like a completely different platform. The interface that used to give me headaches is now so much easier and more intuitive. It seems that the developers behind Midjourney listened carefully and knew exactly what the community needed.
But it's not just the interface that has improved. The features are more refined and user friendly, so even beginners can quickly get the hang of it. But the most impressive thing for me is the quality. The results Midjourney delivers today are worlds better than a year ago. It's like going from an old tube TV to a modern 4K screen.
The second example is a portrait. The evolution between v1 and v5.1 of the details and the light in the face are gigantic. But also the difference between v4 and v5 alone is huge.
For anyone who hasn't tried Midjourney yet, or maybe tried it a long time ago and is hesitant to try it again: It's definitely worth it! The platform has come a long way and I'm excited to see where it will go in the future.
Here is my first picture I made with Midjourney in June 2022.
